As the wholly owned consultancy company of Imperial College London, Imperial Consultants was formed over 30 years ago to harness the breadth and depth of expertise at the College and deliver practical, and cutting-edge, solutions for industry, government and the third sector.
We are now a leading university-owned consultancy company successfully matching the expertise of our academics to our clients needs – and delivering projects on time and to specification. In fact, last year, we successfully managed 1231 projects, for 1113 organisations (ranging from SME’s to multi-nationals), from more than 40 countries.

Imperial Consultants Board members
Simon Hepworth, Chairman
Simon is Director of Enterprise and Chairman of the Board of Imperial Consultants (ICON) and also sits on the Innovations Partnership Board, which oversees the technology transfer operations of the university. Simon is seeking to connect more of Imperial’s academics, students and discoveries with leading entrepreneurs and pioneers from industry. His ultimate goal is to generate more opportunities for collaboration that make a real world impact.
Alistair McDermott
Alistair is Enterprise Deputy Director – and was formerly the Executive Director for Imperial Consultants and responsible for delivering it’s long and short term plans. Alistair has worked within the higher education sector in industry-facing roles for a number of years and has launched joint ventures, developed start-up centres and has delivered regional business support initiatives.
Eric Yeatman FREng, FIEEE
Eric is a Professor of Micro-Engineering and Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Imperial College London. He was awarded the Royal Academy of Engineering Silver Medal in 2011, then made a Fellow in 2012 – and holds Fellowships of the IEEE, the IET, IOM3 and the City and Guilds Institute. Prof. Yeatman is also co-founder and non-executive director of Microsaic Systems plc and has been a technical advisory board member to two venture capital funds.
