Flying the flag for consultancy at Imperial Festival

ICON’s stand saw the return of the ever popular ‘Ask an Expert’ competition, where this year, guests had the opportunity to ask their burning questions on hybrid and electric cars, DNA and genes, and the Universe. As in previous years, we received numerous thought provoking questions and our experts have picked one question each to answer.

Dr Gregory Offer from Department of Mechanical Engineering answered Doris Pappoe’s question “will electric cars be around as long as ordinary cars have been?”

Dr Vanessa Sancho Shimizu from the Department of Medicine answered Jay’s question “can DNA be changed?”

Dr Roberto Trotta from the Department of Physics answered Ollie Mullen’s question “how many stars are there?”

We also featured a game, showcasing several of our consultancy projects from improving the efficiency of car engines to providing technical advice for a television show about magic. Guests were challenged with matching the expert to the project.

The star of the show, however, was Leo the cuddly lion, who sat patiently on our stand while visitors guessed how many helium balloons it would take to lift him up in his basket. Yiran Fan correctly guessed that it would take 71 balloons.

We would like to thank all the consultants and ICON staff who helped with this year’s Festival stand.
