INTARESE: A Case study in EU Project Management

INTARESE: A Case study in EU Project Management

INTARESE (Integrated Assessment of Health Risks of Environmental Stressors in Europe) is a 5 year (2005-2010) large collaborative European project partly-funded by the European Commission through the FP6 programme.  The project is designed to support the implementation of the European Environment and Health Action Plan by providing the methods and tools, essential to enable integrated assessment of environment and health risks.  Made up of a consortium of 33 partner institutions across Europe, lead by Imperial College London as the lead coordinator and Imperial Consultants as the consortium managers, INTARESE is an interdisciplinary complex project involved in research, training and dissemination activities.

Imperial Consultants, through its dedicated consortium management team supports actively the project Coordinator in:

  • acting as a communication hub between the Commission (Project Officer, Financial Officer ) and the partners in the consortium
  • for any contractual and project running issues
  • set-up and management of the Consortium Agreement
  • organising the project meetings, annual review and workshops and conferences
  • collating and submitting the annual reports and financial paperwork
  • for coordinating the external training activities and stakeholder management
  • towards an efficient dissemination of the findings
  • set-up and management of the project extranet and website
  • actively networking with other similar FP6 projects in areas of commonality and overlap
  • for the knowledge management and exploitation.

Imperial Consultants' administration management frees the Principal Investigator and the academics to concentrate on the science.

Through its experience in technology transfer and best practice, Imperial Consultants will aim to create a common platform for the participating end-users with the aim to attract more SMEs and industrial users in widening the scope of the project. Imperial Consultants will deal with the wide dissemination of the findings and in the creation and maintenance of the project website, and the project extranet as a vibrant and active ‘working area’ for all project partners and for delivery of technical briefs during the lifetime of the project.  Imperial Consultants is responsible also for building a wide network of European FP6 and FP7 projects in the area of environment and public health.
