Electron Microscopy

The Harvey Flower Centre for Electron Microscopy is one of a number of facilities in the Department of Materials for processing and characterising materials.

The centre has four scanning electron microscopes and three transmission electron microscopes. The facility is also host to the first TITAN 80/300 in the UK - the world's most powerful electron microscope.

In addition there are two sample preparation labs, a data processing suite and a remote microscopy facility. The dedicated microscopy team have worked with many external clients on commercial projects and are experienced in providing professional advice and training.

Other facilities in the Department of Materials include surface analysis, x-ray diffraction, thermal analysis and x-ray microtomography.

Services offered

  • Comprehensive service with multiple facilities and experimental techniques
  • Experiment optimisation
  • Training and advice
  • Access to state-of-the-art research across medicine, chemistry, biology, physics and engineering
