Civil engineering facilities

The Department for Civil and Environmental engineering offers many facilities including triaxial testing equipment, impact rigs, creep rigs and wave tanks.

The department's facilities are used for various research and consultancy projects. In combination with world-class experts in bridges, transport planning, foundations, dams and water supply, the Civil Engineering facilities offer comprehensive testing services.

Facilities include:

  • Biaxial internal reaction frame
  • Compression testing rig
  • Concrete durability lab
  • Random wave generators
  • High temperature strength testing rig
  • Servo hydraulic loading equipment

The Hydrodynamics Laboratory in the Fluid Mechanics Section of Civil and Environmental Engineering is the largest of its kind in the UK University sector.
