Event: Institute of Shock Physics showcases new facilities

The Gas Gun facility
The Gas Gun facility
31 Oct 2011 The Institute of Shock Physics opens its doors to all on Wednesday 2nd November 2011, presenting an afternoon of talks, posters and tours of the new facilities.

From meteorite impacts to the formation of tsunamis, shock physics is all about analysing and understanding what happens to matter under extreme conditions. The Institute of Shock Phsyics (ISP), based at Imperial College, aims to undertake fundamental physics experiments which will yield new insights into the science of shockwaves. Utilising a range of new facilities, including the Gas Gun and MACH Generator, researchers and industry alike are able to investigate how materials behave under high pressures and temperatures.

Join the team this Wednesday to find out more about the ISP, take a tour of its new facilities, and discover how you could access the expertise and resources on offer. The event will be led by Professor Steve Rose, Founding Director of the ISP, Head of Group for Plasma Physics and Deputy Head of Faculty for Natural Sciences.
