Carbon capture and storage (CCS) research is strong at Imperial, with a dedicated Centre for CCS and collaborations with Shell and Qatar Petroleum through the Qatar Carbonates and Carbon Storage Research Centre.
And the research will only get stronger with the UK's second carbon capture pilot plant due to be completed mid 2011. The plant will allow undergraduates to experience hands-on the operation of a carbon capture plant and show them first-hand how the technology works. Sections of the plant and the state of the art control room will also be visible to visitors.
