Imperial researchers develop new turbocharger to increase energy efficiency
12 May 2010 Imperial researchers are developing an active flow turbocharger in their quest for engine efficiency.

Dr Ricardo Martinez-Botas and his team are world leading experts in turbocharger design and energy efficiency. Their state-of-the-art testing facilities at Imperial College London provide steady and unsteady performance testing, with consulting services also offering custom analysis and design.

As the UK gears up to meet its 2050 carbon emission targets, a low-carbon economy is increasingly needed. Electric and hybrid vehicles are a focal point of research at Imperial, with a dedicated research network and undergraduates working on building and racing hybrid cars through racing green.

Dr Martinez-Botas has just received a grant from EPSRC and the Technology Strategy Board to develop a feasibility study on an active flow turbocharger design.
