Public health

With international outbreaks of SARS, swine flu and bird flu in recent years, and the enormous numbers affected by HIV, public health research has never been more important.

Research at Imperial’s School of Public Health includes fungal disease, epidemiology, HIV intervention, STI prevention and control, health systems performance, large-scale population studies and bacterial disease. The Institute of Global Health is working to improve the health of people across the world, addressing the policy, technical and scientific challenges.

The Imperial College Business School also has a number of research projects looking at healthcare management and system regulation as well as playing host to the national Health and Care Infrastructure Research and Innovation Centre.

Imperial Consultants also provides one of the few forensic science testing services in the UK, including toxicology reports, HIV testing and gut hormone screening.

Advances in information and communication technologies and the rise of the ‘digital economy’ provides opportunities for e-health projects, and Imperial is at the forefront.
