Innovation & Design

The launch of a new idea, whether in science, medicine or engineering, requires skills in research, design and commercialisation.

Imperial’s Innovation Studies Centre within the Business School is focused on leading research through these processes. By working closely with businesses including IBM, Arup, Audi, BT, BAA, QinetiQ, Nokia and Pfizer, the centre is transforming innovation in the UK. The design of Heathrow Terminal 5, led by a team from the centre, is considered an example of best practice for the integrated innovation process.

Through DesignLondon, Imperial has close links with the UK design community. The collaboration, between Imperial and the Royal College of Art, supports research, education and business development at the boundary of science and design.

The expertise throughout Imperial’s Faculties of Medicine, Natural Sciences and Engineering is also available for assessing, developing and implementing disruptive technologies.

The Rajiv Gandhi Centre enables Indian and British organisations to collaborate on projects in innovation and entrepreneurship. Imperial Consultant's sister company Imperial Innovations supports the development of research into marketable and beneficial products.
