Imaging & Sensors

Imperial’s combination of cutting-edge facilities and leading research make it an essential destination for any organisation requiring imaging expertise.

The College hosts the Centre for Clinical Imaging, in collaboration with GlaxoSmithKline and the Medical Research Centre (MRC). The Centre is Europe’s largest clinical imaging centre and focuses on MRI and PET technologies.

The Faculty of Medicine at Imperial is uniquely placed to provide cutting-edge imaging services, with its access to London’s NHS facilities through the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. Its imaging science department, part of the MRC’s Clinical Sciences Centre, has research interest spanning imaging physics and neonatal imaging. In addition its facilities include MRI and NMR systems, a PET imaging group and ultrasound and bioluminescence systems.

Imperial’s imaging expertise is not limited to the medical. Facilities and expertise across the university include a state-of-the-art electron microscopy suite, a non-destructive testing group using super resolution and tomography for industrial inspection and monitoring and a light microscopy imaging facility.

In addition, the Faculty of Engineering has an image processing group with active research in image fusion, object recognition and image enhancement. The computing department is also strong in imaging with a dedicated research group for visual information processing.
