Looking after the environment has never been more important. Whether it’s natural or urban, you can access Imperial’s environmental expertise through Imperial Consultants.

Imperial’s Department of Life Sciences has researchers studying molecular, genetic, cellular, population, ecosystem and evolutionary processes. Research areas include how plants respond to attacks by pests and pathogens as well as preservation techniques for wood.

State-of-the-art facilities include controlled environment plant growth rooms, imaging labs and mass spectrometry facilities.

The Centre for Environmental Policy focuses on the social sciences relevant to the environment and the interface between science and policy in environmental issues. Research includes environmental pollution, biosecurity and risk analysis of pesticides.

The urban environment is also an area of intense research at Imperial, with projects looking at transport systems, innovation in urban water projects, smart energy grids and urban-environment interactions. These projects have a strong industrial focus, involving collaborations with BP, Arup and water companies.
